About

January 19th, 2009

Welcome to the website of the Minneapolis Star Tribune unit of the Newspaper Guild. Our unit is part of historic Local 37002 (formerly Local 2), which includes our formidable journalistic rivals and good friends at the St. Paul Pioneer Press and several smaller units. The Strib now belongs to Avista, a private equity firm, which in early 2007 bought it from the McClatchy Co., which bought it from the family-runCowles Media Co. in 1998.

Our unit is made up of more than 300 people in the print and online newsrooms of the Strib, as well asseveral in promotions and circulation.

The Strib unit is committed to protecting the economic well-being of its members in an ethical, progressive manner. We’re also committed to good journalism, and we commit it every day.

Look here for news and opinions about the many issues our unit is facing these days.

We’re also soliciting articles, opinions, letters and questions from our members to post on this site. Got a strong opinion you’d like other members to know about? Give a great speech at the stewards’ meeting that deserves a broader audience? Feel strongly about our union, or unions in general? Please write to us at the following e-mail addresses.
